Well, as an influential and well connected member of the new media, I have something to report that my friends in NBC Sports have let me know that they will be holding a fan celebration to kick off the 2007 season at Rockefeller Plaza, NYC on January 13th. As a hockey fan, you will be treated to prizes and games, food and beverage discounts to restaurants around rink side and NBC has asked that all fans who attend the broadcast to please wear your hockey jerseys, sweaters, or caps. You could be on TV! It sounds like a lot of fun.
In addition to watching the NHL on NBC broadcast from New York city, you can be a part of "history" as they expect Brett Hull to sit in with the NBC crew and opine and not caring what you *bleeping* think.
The games featured that weekend are the feature game (billed as an "original 6 battle") Bruins vs. Rangers with regional coverage Pens vs Flyers or the LA Kings vs St. Louis Blues.

*does a Muttley laugh*
At the time, it actually tickled me to read Brett Hull saying that infamous quote...'cause it gave me another excuse, besides the 2002 Cup Finals, to dislike his guts.
*looks at the games being offered on NBC's platter*
Yeesh...all of that is a classic example of why the NHL's TV ratings are so low this year. With the exception of the Red Wings, the media darling teams are not doing all that great. The teams being featured in the Bruins, Rangers, Flyers, Kings, and Blues are mediocre at best. And THAT is a compliment towards at least the Flyers and Blues thus far this season.
Anyways, between the games shown on VS. and NBC, if so many of them did not feature the horrible, HORRIBLE Flyboys and, again, mediocre Teddybears, I cannot help but feel the NHL ratings would be at least a little better.
But hey, even if the general public supposedly could care less (AND prefer arm wrestling over hockey...yes, scarily enough, I passed by an arm wrestling "tournament" on ESPN today. o_O) about it, I *do* look highly forward to seeing the Pens once again embarass the boogers out of the Steak and Cheesers on national TV. :D
