NHL Draft Lottery Results

The Penguins got screwed!! Big Time!!

The Washington Capitals walked away from the Draft lottery getting the first overall pick, despite the Pens reluctantly getting last place in the NHL. The rules this year is that the teams with the bottom five worst records in the previous season enter into a lottery to determine the first round draft order. The NHL believes that this is enough motivation for a team not to completely tank the season to get the number one position automatically.

The Penguins were anticipating on drafting Alexander Ovechkin.

Here's how the top five are set to pick in June 2004

  1. Capitals

  2. Penguins

  3. Blackhawks

  4. Blue Jackets

  5. Coyotes
