It looks as if another NHL veteran has decided to call it a career. According to Yahoo! Sports, Ron Francis was offered a front office job with the franchise that he has known the most in his 20+ years.
Ronnie "Franchise" was originally drafted by the Hartford Whalers, but after 9 seasons, he was traded to the Penguins to win the Stanley Cup. He also brought the Whalers to the Finals in their current Carolina Hurricanes form. Last season, he made a run for the Stanley Cup as a Toronto Maple Leaf.
Originally reported in the Raleigh News & Observer newspaper, Ronnie "Franchise" will be a welcome relief to the franchise he's helped build.

Maybe he should just take over for Rutherford, who has done a poor job for about 40 years now (at least it seems).
Actually, why is he being offered such an important job as Director of Player Personnel? What qualifications does he have?
Francis is one of my favourite players, but NHL teams need to learn not to hire more qualified and trained staff rather than just one of the boys...this has caused the Oilers to tread water for a long time.
Let Francis get his feet wet first.
