Gretzky is Jobbing in Glendale

What a perfect name is the almost-new arena in Glendale as Jobbing.com Arena. Perhaps this is what Head Coach/GM/Minority Owner Wayne Gretzky should be doing now - looking for a new job.

The Coyotes are sitting at a miserable 3-8 record after 11 games this season. And where the naming rights come in most appropriately, in the WWE sports enterainment world the term "job" becomes understood as willfully laying down and losing for your opponent and making them look good.

After all the giggling dies down, the real debate in the desert is to assess Coach Gretzky's ability to coach this franchise. The talk has already started to loom on the FAN 590 in Toronto. There, they speculated where Gretzky has surrounded himself with friends of his as his staff and while he remains a minority owner, Gretzky cannot really fire himself - only come to the conclusion that he must step down.

I have to give a pat on the back to the roundtable discussion that postulated that if it wasn't Gretzky as the coach, the press would call for his firing. But as the picture above illustrates "the great one" is rationally explaining: "I am #$%* Wayne Gretzky and I can do anything!"

It is only a matter of time when the chorus of hockey fans (yes, all 16 of them) in Arizona speak up and let Gretzky know about the direction of the franchise.

I'm sure I said this somewhere sometime last year when it was announced that Gretzky was going to take over the head coaching reins for the Coyotes, and I'll say it again:

He's just never heard of that saying about how more often than not, the best players don't make for the best coaches, has he?
