Devils Announce Plans for New Arena

The New Jersey Devils fans can breathe a sigh of relief that it looks like their team is safe for the time being. It was speculated that with the NBA Nets moving to get the heck out of East Rutherford, NJ that the Devils were going to follow their lead.

Not so according to TSN-NHL Network. The Devils have announced plans to build a new 18,000 seat, 68 luxury box arena in the Newark, New Jersey community. The groudbreaking is scheduled for later the summer and early fall in time for the 2007-08 season.

To call the Continental Airlines Arena a "dump" would be putting it lightly. It's a wonder why Continental Airlines didn't revoke their sponsorship/naming rights to the building. As Pres. Lou Lamoriello told NHL Network:
I think it's a tremendous opportunity because the building will be a state-of-the-art facility and will have the functional parts that maybe we haven't had in the past. And it's just going to be our responsibility to not only put the best product on the ice, but do the best we can to put an infrastructure up and create an environment that everybody wants to come back to."
