AHL Playoffs - Round Three

Round Three of the American Hockey League playoffs begin Thursday as Game 1 of the Western Conference final is slated for tonight. Friday, the Phantoms and Bruins lock up for their start of the Eastern Conference finals.

Notes: The Phantoms are riding high on hopes that junior player Jeff Carter can help them get to the AHL Calder Cup finals. The Phantoms won the Cup in 1998. They play the Providence Bruins, who won the Calder Cup the year after. Since the merger of the IHL to the AHL, only old IHL teams have won the Calder. Two old IHL teams Manitoba and Chicago fight for the Western Finals series. Chicago, the Thrashers minor league affiliate, is a favorite to win with the young talent they have accumulated.
