When the media business is in the business to break news stories... the race to be the first source to talk about the new CBA deal is getting neck and neck. A lot of speculation and points to the contract have leaked out a little. But, seeming in control of the situation, the NHL official stance is that they are still talking and no deal has been made. Twice now, the NHL has had to come out with a news story, like the one linked at the bottom, to save the surprise when it's most advantageous.Reporters and Sports Talk shows have all speculated that the NHL is waiting for after the All Star game so that the NHL will utilize the slowest day in sports news - the day after the baseball game. This frustrates the hell out of me, both from a journalistic standpoint, and a fan standpoint. I'm dubbing this, "The Bobblehead Who Cried 'Draft'", because you know that'll be the first thing up on Bobblehead Bettman's menu once the CBA's done. The sad thing is, someone eventually's going to break the story, but will we believe them? Probably not, because we've been told it's been coming for months now. I don't care what anyone says -- THIS is more annoying than the lockout itself.
P.S. I'm a little more bitter than usual because I've come to the realization that I'll be writing about the stupid All-Star game this week.
