Harper Honors Hockey Champions

Sometimes, I can get rather focused on some aspects of hockey and sometimes stories slip through. Here is more of a positive note on how politics leans on the patriotism in national sports.

At the 2007 Canadian Hockey Foundation Celebrity Classic Gala Dinner, the Rgt. Hon. Harper saluted the successful program. Would Canadian politics see this as a reason to dump more government money into funding a national program?
"It’s been another banner year for Canadian hockey," said the Prime Minister. "Thanks to the players we’re honouring here tonight, Canada has three more world championships to add to its collection. Congratulations to all of you, you’ve done our country proud."
I am a little jealous of Canadians sometimes who's passion for the sport should be well copied here in the States.
“I can’t think of any other country where a single sport is such a big part of the history and the culture. Nothing unites us, nothing defines us, like the game of hockey.”
