Penguins Sign Lease

The final nail in the coffin for hockey in Hamilton came yesterday as the Pittsburgh Penguins signed a lease agreement to the proposed new arena to be built by 2010.

It was a long and bumpy road, but things got done and ends happily. I fully credit the Penguins fans and all of our efforts to ensure the team's future in Pittsburgh. However, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato gave himself and his cronies all the credit instead.
"The Penguins are here because of gaming," Onorato said. "That gave us the ability to create a new arena for them and keep the pressure off the local taxpayers."
Remember that.
