HHOF Announces 2009 Class

Three former Red Wings have found themselves granted another honor as the Hockey Hall of Fame have bestowed upon them. Steve Yzerman, Brett Hull, Luc Robitaille have all been chosen along with former Rangers and Leafs defenceman Brian Leetch.

As every hockey pundit and media personality debates stats as a qualification, but I would contend that the main consideration should start with how many Championships have been won (along with personal awards). If we were to look at stats first, then a lot of people would get in to the Hall sooner and may overlook players who never got the chance at the Cup. But this class of 09 have seen a lot of silver in their careers 3 of the 4 players were a part of the 1990s Red Wings dynasty that won Stanley Cups.
"The Hockey Hall of Fame is proud to welcome these five hockey legends as honoured members," selection committee member Jim Gregory said in a release Tuesday. "Their contributions to the game of hockey are well documented and their election to the Hockey Hall of Fame is richly deserved."
Along with the players, Devils GM Lou Lamoriello was also tapped for the builders category. He is mostly known for finding diamonds in the rough through drafting and free agency allowing the Devils to win 3 championships.
